Details - what is a FastAbstract ?

FastAbstracts are two page technical articles that are published and include a short talk at the conference. The goal is to promote current work, opinions, experience and even a discussions of problems and issues where the solutions may not yet be known - opening a dialog with the professional community. We call them FastAbstracts because everything about them is fast. To write them is fast, to get them through the accepteance cycle is fast, the presentation is fast, and feedback is fast. Perfect for this fast moving information technology business that we are in. The submission process, review, and communication are all handled electronicaly.

There is a strict two page limit - we plan to produce a printed digest in addition to it being web published. If your FastAbstract is accepted, you will need to fill out a copyright transfer form, and quickly handle any recommended changes. You will also need to present them at the conference in October. Failure to show up after an accepted FastAbstract may disqualify you at future meetings.

Procedure:

  1. Think of your FastAbstract idea and translate that to a short 2 page article. To get an idea look at a few others - there are several from the past FTCS and ISSRE archived on this website.
  2. Submit it - quickly. We will only accept them in electronic form meeting our specifications. (a) A PDF file produced in two column, and filling a maximum of two pages. (b) We also need the full text in ascii, attached. Here is a sample in PDF format,
  3. You will receive an email acknowledgement for your submission.
  4. You will then hear from us if it is accepted by the FastAbstract program committee. The reviews take place as these are submitted and handled on a first come first serve basis.
  5. If your FastAbstract is accepted - then follow any instructions for changes required and resubumit any corrections if needed. Always reference your FastAbstract number, and submit the copyright form, duly signed.
  6. Appear at the conference prepared to give a short talk - usually 6 minutes with 1.5 minutes for Q+A. We will post guidelines on how to prepare for a short talk.
