Dear Classmates

30 years. Most of us have completely lost contact since 1977-78. Few have retained touch. Ram Chillarege’s website has been wonderful. Many e-mails have been floating around after Ram and I proposed a reunion. We have been able to consolidate and visualize how this is going to work. A lot of ground work by our ‘75 batch is being leveraged.
Not only are we among the fortunate few to graduate from IISc, our batch was indeed quite cohesive. We all arrived together, ate together, learnt together, shared confusions together, and played together. We attended and bunked all sorts of lectures and used the Gymkhana as a second home. I am sure we have some wonderful memories and growth we share.
A reunion is a great event to celebrate. It is also probably the most efficient way to reconnect and build a bigger “we”. This is indeed a once in a lifetime opportunity and each one who does not turn up will be missed.
IISc is in Bangalore and I urge all of us to consider participating with our families. It is a wonderful experience for children to understand their parents by seeing them in the company of their classmates - the people they learnt with and grew. I understand from the ‘75 reunion that the children networked so well that many made new friends and continue on chats even today, a couple years after the event. If my family’s recent meeting with Sankarnarayan’s family for a few hours or Dilip Rao’s family was any example, I think the experience is awesome.

  1. A lot of people have joined e-mail exchanges recently. While most seem to be in the list, it is likely that some are missing. One person from EE, ECE and MET should take up the task of ensuring completeness of the batch by getting e-mail ids and phone numbers of the others. (The first round is won by EE since our list is complete). I will take the liberty of assigning Arvind Mohan and Vasantha Raja as volunteers. The outstation guys will take up tasks that are electronic, and we local guys will take up the physical.
  2. Hotel availability in Bangalore is a serious organizational issue. We have a non-negotiated offer from Eagleton Golf resort where the ‘75 batch held their reunion and have shared their insights and contacts. The hotel offer is attached. We can negotiate the rates based on our numbers. The closer we get to Christmas, the rates rise and the discount reduces.
  3. Please send us your ideas and suggestions on agenda - invitations to professors and the directors takes a lead time.
  4. Please say, “Yes !”.

Cheers,
Prahlad

   LET US GET TOGETHER
