Mark Rosario passed away on January 20, 2004. He is survived
by his wife Gretta, and two sons, Kenny (18) and Kevin
(15).
Mark had battled a cancer for the past three years.
The efforts of him and his doctor granted him a lease
of life in the face of tough odds. Support and prayers
from an extensive group of friends and family saw them
through this anxious period. All things considered,
he had a remarkably good quality of life since the onset
of cancer; and it continued up until these past couple
weeks. The family celebrated a great Christmas in Virginia
with Dante and family.
Just three weeks ago, his health rapidly deteriorated
and he was hospitalized. His sister Nancy and a brother
Valentine, were able to travel to the States to be with
the family. Several friends from close and afar were
also able to be here.
Mark is an incredible soul. He touched so many of our
lives, with his gentleness, patience, and a relentless
faith in life and people. Mark’s signature was his
beaming smile, now imprinted in our memory.
A memorial service for Mark was held at the Franklin Memorial,
North Brunswick, NJ on January 22, 2004. A number of people
(probably over a hundred) from all over the world managed
to attend. Several of our classmates and IISc friends were
also there. A few of us are in the picture below, taken
at the Rosario residence after the services.

Mark stayed on at IISc for ME and after graduation, joined
Tata Boroughs Limited. Work took him to Bombay, and assignments
to Hyderabad and then Jamaica. Following a year and a half
at Jamaica, he came to New York in 1983. His specialization
is Database and he has worked as a software engineer since
school. Merrill Lynch and then Telcordia. New Jersey has
been home for more than a decade.
Gretta and Mark were married at Kinnigoli, Southern Karnataka
in 1980. They have two sons: Kenny, 12 and Kevin, nine. Basket
ball fans, and the older fellow is the expert stock picker
in the family. They have managed to keep in touch with a
considerable number of IISc folk in the New York, New Jersey,
Connecticut tri-state area. Gretta has begun school lately,
and in the past year the parties have tempered down. However,
the is a new Biriyani expert at home. Anymore, conversations
between Mark and Ram that traditionally centered around computers,
has taken on a new turn. On Saturday morning, Ram calls about
the tender egg-plant he picked up at 74th street on his way
back from Laguardia, and Mark describes the "true South-Kannara" chilies
he found in Edison.
