Title: Demystifying Web Services - Thursday, 12/13/2001

Ashok Malhotra, Microsoft

SYNOPSIS of TALK

In 1999, Meta Group predicted the rise of Web Services, including the use of XML as a lingua franca. They now say "Although currently being touted as a B2B component model, we believe Web services will have a lasting impact on overall Web architecture." But to a lot a people in the business, Web Services are just the latest buzzword generated by the IT hype machine. This talk will briefly introduce XML and motivate Web Services. It will then discuss the four principle standards directions behind Web Services and conclude with a discussion of how to develop a Web Service.

Dear CTOs,

At our last meeting the top two topics that we identified were: (a) Web Services (b) Intellectual Property. I am pleased to announce that our next meeting will be addresed by Ashok Malhotra, a well known figure in the standards bodies surrounding web services.

Looking forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
